Well, first things first. Sexton has to win the remaining rounds and collect 52 points. Those are his only playing cards. With some major competitors now out, it seems possible or even likely this will be the case. He’d end up with 372 total points on the season.
Tomac now sits on 338 points and would only need to tie Sexton to take home the big trophy (Eli will win the tiebreaker of main event wins by virtue of his 7). This means he needs to collect 34 points. That’s two 6th place finishes, a 2nd and a 12th, or a 4th and an 8th. Should Eli have a disastrous day in Denver, however – let’s say 15th for some reason – he’d need to win SLC to be assured of beating Sexton for the title. Here’s an interesting scenario: If Tomac takes 13th this weekend, he’ll have to earn 24 points in SLC. Second place won’t do that; only a win would work. If Sexton wins both events and Eli takes 13th or worse at either round, he’s out. »
