Smith goes back to blue

Highly regarded four-stroke pilot Kelly Smith has become one of the hottest properties in the pro motocross ranks now that everyone is rolling out a 250cc thumper for next year. But after initially signing a letter of intent with Kawasaki to ride for either the factory team or Pro Circuit, Smith will instead be on a YZ250F under the Yamaha of Troy tent. Acting on a tip from TFS over at Motonews.com, Racer X was able to confirm that the ink is dry on Yamaha of Troy contracts for Kelly Smith and Danny Smith for the next two seasons. They will join YoT holdovers Brock Sellards and Josh Hansen, while Australia’s Craig Anderson appears to be headed home and Ivan Tedesco is moving over to Pro Circuit Kawasaki. The team is also in discussions with 125cc National MX Championship contender Mike Brown for a 125cc MX/250cc SX deal for 2004. (Brown pointed out of 125cc Regional SX this year.) And they may have one other big, BIG surprise coming in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for Racer X for more info as it becomes available.
