Boniface to Join CAS Honda for Germany
– press release –
CAS Honda would like to announce that following an impressive performance at the French Grand Prix, Steve Boniface will board the CRF450R in replacement of Mike Brown for the next World Championship round in Germany.
Boniface has spent recent years racing successfully in America and will test the factory Honda machinery in the run up to the eighth round of the Grand Prix Championship. The 25-year-old Frenchman finished in a very creditable fifth position in the second moto at St Jean d’Angely, and is looking forward to racing with the expert backing of the CAS Honda team.
Billy Mackenzie will sit out of this weekend’s British Championship event at Desertmartin due to the injury he sustained in practice last time out.
The Scottish-ace has won every race of the season so far and is leading the MX1 Championship by a staggering 65 points after four of eight rounds. Mackenzie will concentrate on recovering from the cracked shoulder blade he suffered during a heavy tumble in France in readiness for his next outing at the German Grand Prix in just over a weeks’ time.
Neil Prince: CAS Honda Team Manager
“We have spoken with various riders following Mike’s departure, but it’s difficult to find someone suitable mid-season that doesn’t have a contractual conflict of interest with the CAS Honda outfit. Steve rode noticeably well at the last Grand Prix and we’d like to give him the opportunity to work with the team in Germany before we make any firm decisions on the remainder of the season. He has shown great pace in America, but to come to a World Championship event and finish fifth is quite impressive considering the depth of the field. Billy is recovering well, but he is still very sore so we’ve decided it is best that he doesn’t ride this weekend, especially as he is already winning the Championship by such a large margin. He will be back racing next weekend in Germany”
