[World Cup Moto One]

Introductions of the event organizers, industry dignitaries, and each World Cup team is taking place at the moment…look for the first moto to start a bit late, probably around 11:30am PST. David Bailey is the Official Starter for the World Cup of Motocross.

The International field is making a sighting lap around the track…in just minutes, we’ll be seeing the start.

Let’s roll…the gate drops and the first moto holeshot goes to Kyle Lewis…several riders careen over the bars as they jump down the first big downhill…Chad Reed leads as they come around, followed by Ferry, Dobb…

Lap 2 – Tortelli was among those who crashed early; leaders are Reed, Ferry, Dobb, Albertyn, Byrne, Fonseca…Hamblin is running around 8th or 9th…

Lap 3 – Chad Reed leads, Ferry trying to pass for the lead, the two Yamaha riders having a reat battle, then Dobb, Albertyn, Byrne…Kyle Lewis is running just back of Lewis, three Americans in the top ten…Two Australians also running in the top group…

Lap 4 – Reed, Ferry, Dobb lead…Ferry moves for the block pass on Reed…Langston has moved up, passing teammate Albertyn running 4th & 5th…Ferry, Reed, Dobb, Byrne, Langston, Albertyn, Fonseca…right now it’s the Aussies and the South Africans doing well…

Lap 5 – Ferry, Reed, Dobb, Byrne, Langston, Albertyn, Morgan, Fonseca, Hamblin…Ferry leads the top 8, all running pretty close together…Reed is riding very well, keeping Ferry within his sights as they duel on their big Yamaha thumpers…

Lap 6 – Order is Ferry, Reed, Dobb, Byrne, Albertyn, Fonseca, Morgan, Hamblin, Langston, Anderson…Australia is the only team with all 3 of their riders in the top 10 – impressive, although only the top 2 from each country are scored…Dobb has been trying to hold off Langston, now Langston’s having some problems & dropping back a bit…Dobb lost a bit of ground as well…

Lap 7 – Ferry leads the way, Reed, Dobb, Byrne, Albertyn, Fonseca pursue…should be 3 laps remaining…

Lap 8 – Tim Ferry holds a couple second lead on Reed, after that there’s a big gap back to Dobb, pursued closely by Byrne, Albertyn, Hamblin, Fonseca, Langston, Anderson…Reed passes Ferry to swipe back the lead…

Lap 9 – Running order is Reed, Ferry, Dobb, Fonseca, Albertyn, Hamblin, Byrne…the 2-lap sign is now out…Hamblin is on the move, passing 2 riders on the way up the mountain…should put him into the top five…

Lap 10 – White flag: Reed, Ferry, Dobb, Hamblin (now 4th), Fonseca, Albertyn, Morgan…Reed has added some room between himself and Ferry toward the end…New Zealand’s Cody Cooper stalls out up the hill & has to go down to take another run…Fonseca’s trying to pass Hamblin back on the way up Mt. St. Helen’s…as they come across the flag, the finish order will be Chad Reed with the moto win, followed by Tim Ferry, then Dobb, Hamblin, Fonseca, Langston, Albertyn, Craig Anderson, Byrne, Morgan, Narita, Kyle Lewis, Atsuta, Dube, Thain, Roy…

[World Cup Moto Two]

Sebastien Tortelli’s day is done…after the French Suzuki rider’s disastrous tumble down the hill early in the first moto, he’s reportedly being treated for a punctured lung. His remaining French teammates – Thain and Sorby – will continue on for the remainder of the day.

The schedule is getting back on track – the second World Cup moto is scheduled to start at 1:00pm local time.

The gate drops, and the holeshot goes to Chad Reed, followed by Fonseca, Hamblin…Reed gets completely sideways – feet off the pegs! – leaping off the top off Mt. St. Helens, somehow he pulls it back in before landinng & holds on…Ferry is down at the bottom of the hill…Langston moves to 3rd, Hamblin takes it back…

Lap 2 – Reed leads Fonseca, Hamblin, Langston, Byrne…Reed is riding an inspired race today, putting the screws to the competition…with Byrne running in/near the top 5, the Australians are lloking to improve…

Lap 3 – Hamblin reels in Reed and moves within passing position – Langston also pulls up to make it a 3-way battle for the lead…order now is Reed, Hamblin, Langston, Fonseca, Byrne, Lewis, Albertyn, Dube, Anderson, Roy, Thain, King, Morgan, Dobb, Narita…Ferry is back underway, a long way back, with the leaders coming up behind him…

Lap 4 – Reed’s still holding off Hamblin, barely, and Langston is hanging tough trying to find away around both of them, the lead coulee belong to any of them as they work their way around…Langston is especially all over Hamblin, and Fonseca is also now right with them…Langston and Hamblin tangled before going up the mountain, both crashing…Hamblin got back moving first, but Langston took a lot longer to untangle his bike to turn around & take off…

Lap 5 – Up front, Reed still leads, now followed by Fonseca, Lewis, Byrne, Albertyn, Roy, Dube…Reed leads Fonseca by about 1 second, then it’s around 3 second back to Lewis who’s getting plenty of pressure from Byrne and Albertyn…

Lap 6 – Fonseca is pressuring Reed for the lead, and Lewis is getting very close to the lead duo, then Byrne, Albertyn, Roy, Hamblin, Anderson, Dube, Morgan…Lewis drops back just a bit, allowing Albertyn to draw closer to challenge for 3rd…Fonseca’s geting all over the place hitting bumps & getting sideways trying to spook Reed…

Lap 7 – Reed and Fonseca continue to run at the front, followed by Lewis, Byrne, Albertyn, Hamblin, Anderson, Dube, Morgan, Narita, Dobb, Roy, Thain, King…Fonseca moves to the lead, jumping into the lead ahead of Reed…

Lap 8 – Reed is staying right with Fonseca, almost appears to be studying his lines to see if there’s a better way around the track that what he’s been using, he’s showing Fonseca his front wheele here and there…after them, it’s 10 seconds back to Lewis…Reed pulls alongside Fonseca down the mountain & tries to rail around outside, didn’t work this time…

Lap 9 – 2 laps to go, Fonseca wicks it up & buys a little bit of room ahead of Reed, just like that he has a 4.5 second gap…Metzger’s running way in the back, but he’s having fun throwing freestyle tricks all around the track…

Lap 10 – White flag is out, it’s Fonseca, Reed, Lewis, Byrne, Albertyn, Hamblin, Anderson, Dobb…Reed has reeled Fonseca back in a bit on this last lap, Reed’s taking a run at the leader as the work their way around lapped riders…the Costa Rican uses the lappers more effectively and gains a little more of his advantage back…here they come at the finish, and the order is Fonseca, Reed, Lewis, Byrne, Albertyn, Hamblin, Anderson, Dobb, Morgan.

With a review of the official results, the USA and Australian teams are TIED for points as we go into the final / 3rd moto of the day. Whichever team has the best combined two riders’ scores this moto will take home the honors as the winning country of the World Cup of Motocross, and they’ll take their $30,000 share of the $100,000 purse.

With a strong crowd, outstanding racing, and many countries’ teams here today (and even those who are not) stating they will not be racing at the replacement MXoN event in Spain in October, it looks like today’s results will be the ones pointed to for the planet’s motocross supremacy…

Get ready as the 35 riders line up at the start (after allowing for the day’s attrition rate) – it’s literally all on the line for this final moto of the day…

The 30-second board goes sideways, the starter referee sprints out of the way, and as the pack rails through the big Talladega first turn, the holeshot for the final moto goes to Sean Hamblin, followed by Reed, Langston, now Langston moves into 2nd, Ferry is running 4th…Dobb crashed early, gets back underway…Hamblin is taken out by Langston at the bottom of the mountain…

Lap 2 – Reed leads the way across the line, followed by Ferry, Fonseca, Langston, Byrne, King, Atsuta, Albertyn…Lewis is running outside the top 15…right now, Australia is looking strong for the win, but it’s early and a lot can happen…

Lap 3 – Ferry is running 2nd behind Reed, but the other USA team members are farther back that Aussies Byrne and Anderson running more ahead of them…Kyle Lewis is a lap down, and off the gas…Hamblin is up & running in the top 20, trying to move forward…Dobb is cruising around at the back…

Lap 4 – Order is Reed, Ferry, Fonseca, Langston, Byrne, King, Albertyn, Atsuta, Roy, Narita, Morgan, Cooper, Dube, Andersen, Thain, Israel…

Lap 5 – Ferry’s no longer near the front – Reed still continues to lead over Fonseca and Langston…then we have Ferry, Byrne, King, Albertyn, Atsuta…

Lap 6 – Reed, Fonseca, Langston, Ferry back in 4th, Byrne, King, Albertyn, Dube, Atsuta, Hamblin…we’re at the halfway point in the moto…Reed leads by 11 seconds…

Lap 7 – Reed’s on top of the world, leading the international pack, as Fonseca tries to hold off Langston…Langston moved to 2nd place, putting Fonseca back to 3rd…Ferry is still running in 4th, Byrne 5th, Hamblin is running in the top 10, but not far enough forward to keep the US in the lead…Ferry is trying to get up closer to Fonseca and Langston to try & improve his position…

Lap 8 – Reed is working is way through the lappers, running order behind him is Langston, Fonseca, Ferry, Byrne, Morgan, Narita, King, Roy, Hamblin, Atsuta, Dube, Thain, Anderson…Albertyn is having bike problems and moving backwards in the pack…

Lap 9 – The closest racing on the track is for 2nd, between Langston, Fonseca and Ferry as they tighten up into a very even group…Hamblin has moved past King over the log jump to move into 8th…

Lap 10 – Reed is shown the 2-lap sign as he continues to grow his lead and realize that Australia will be at the top of the world if he can just hold it together…Fonseca and Langston are giving each other fits – Ferry is moving into position to get into 2nd if the two ahead of him begin to take each other out…Byrne is 5th, and Hamblin is in 9th…

Lap 11 – White flag…Reed continues to lead by 8+ seconds as he does his part to win for Australia…Fonseca crashes out, leaving Langston to fend off Ferry trying to charge for 2nd…as they come around, Reed takes the 3rd moto win, followed in by Langston, Ferry…Michael Byrne crosses in 4th, and secures Australia the World Cup of Motocross honors (and their $30,000 share of the $100,000 World Cup purse)…then Morgan, Hamblin to secure 2nd for Team USA, Narita, King, Atsuta, Dube (good enough to get Canada on the podium for 3rd in the world), Roy, Anderson, Odagiri, Thain, Israel, Josef, Nielsen, Salvatierra, Prince, Jensen.
