Ivan went to Dortmund over the weekend and had Paul Carpenter (long time friend) as his mechanic.
I don’t think there was any question that Ivan was one of the fastest guys there, just had a string of bad luck being a first timer on a tiny course. On Friday, he got taken out and went to LCQ for semi (half-final) and on lap one, started 3rd, went right to second and got forced into a hay bale. Restarted last and a ways back and came back to the rear fender of first place rider when someone went down on a timing section and there was no yellow flag and Ivan landed on the bike…and came to dead stop…and missing advancing to semi.
Day two Ivan was dropping fastest laps in timed qualifying when a rider (teammate, by coincidence) stopped on track edge but in Ivan’s line, and Ivan plowed into him. Ivan did go to Hospital but wasn’t there long, he was released a few hours later. He has a slight sprain and decided best to not push it and make anything worse. Bike was pretty trashed too.
